Coping skills are things to help get you through the moment. They can be positive or negative (maladaptive). For recovery to occur, the negative are replaced with the positive. It is a long process that takes lots of practice and it does not come easy by any means. But working at it and not giving up will give you the result you want!
Its best to practice coping skills during the times when you wouldn't think they would be needed (low stress situations) because when the time comes when they are needed (high stress situations) the coping skills will come more naturally to you.
